CHART is an audiovisual piece where music for videos on cognitive biases is generated directly from the image.

ΧΑΡΤΗΣ (chartis) in the Prolegomena, from Greek — charta, meaning map or diagram.
At the core of the project is Alfred Korzybski’s idea: «the map is not the territory.» Our perception and description of the world («the map») never match the world as it actually is («the territory»).
It is the same with this project: the music is composed using the Virtual ANS program, which translates images into sound, allowing for significant information loss while preserving the main «outlines» of the sonic message. This directly mirrors how cognitive biases function—our brain simplifies and redraws reality, creating its own convenient «map.»
Mapping the track’s spectrogram to video frames
The music was composed using Virtual ANS, a program that replicates the operational principle of the legendary photo-optical synthesizer, Evgeny Mursin’s ANS:
I transform video frames into sound. The program scans the image and converts it into a spectrogram.
I draw the music manually. I create arbitrary images—spectrograms—which the synthesizer «voices.»
