This summer, my team of artists from the Komi Republic created murals at School No. 2 named after V. P. Nalimov in the village of Vilgort. The project was curated by Pavel Chukichev, an artist from Syktyvkar. I created the sketches for all the murals, and students and graduates from the Pitirim Sorokin State University and the I. A. Kuratov State Pedagogical College assisted with the implementation. The project took several months to complete: first, we visited the site to take necessary measurements and consulted with the school director and teachers. Then, over several months, I developed sketches for the murals in the cafeteria, hallways, lobby, and stairwells. We began the execution in mid-summer, and the grand opening of the renovated school took place in September.

The cafeteria was the first space to be completed. For this area, I drew inspiration from the village where the school is located. The result is a composite Vylgort landscape: an old church, wooden and panel houses, the northern natural environment, the famous museum cat Pas Nalimov, allusions to the poultry farm, and the production of felt boots, rugs, and pottery. And the columns transformed into little houses! When you drive through Vylgort, the houses are situated exactly like this—they climb up the hill.

Staircases

We created two stairways—one for the humanities, the other for the sciences.

HALLWAYS

For the corridors, I designed a pattern that could be reproduced throughout the entire school. Each corridor, however, ended up unique thanks to different themes: cadets, music, physics and computer science, chemistry and biology, and local history.
