I. ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
White Spots — a solo exhibition by St. Petersburg artist Evgenia Tut, which took place from September 5 to September 26, 2026, at the Bounded Space gallery in Beijing.
Exhibition Curator — Sun Evelyn (孙宇航). Guest Commentator — Lei Lai (雷徕).
The exhibition explores the right to opacity—to an experience that resists fixation and definition. Here, the «white spot» is understood not as an absence or a lack of knowledge, but as the right to ambiguity, partial invisibility, silence, pause, sleep, and experiences that defy precise description.
Landscape and bed, mountain and room—the artist views them as spaces of a single type: places where a person steps out of a state of productivity and which it is important to keep open for shelter.
II. PROJECT CONTEXT
Initially, the identity was developed as part of a coursework project, but it later found practical application. It was first implemented for the «White Spots» exhibition, which took place in May 2026 at the St. Petersburg gallery «Prostranstvo A,» and subsequently adapted for the needs of the exhibition at the Beijing gallery Bounded Space.
III. VISUAL SYSTEM AND ITS MANIFESTATION
For the exhibition, a minimalist identity was developed that would not distract from Evgenia Tut’s works, but rather help illuminate their artistic concept. The main graphic motif became two vertical lines, which appear in many of the artist’s pieces. This element formed the basis of the identity and is repeated across all its materials.
The typographic solution also references the nature of the artist’s work. The stepped arrangement of text creates a distinct rhythm of reading, based on sequential shifts and pauses. This composition is reminiscent of a gradual movement through a mountain landscape and echoes the theme of contemplation and quiet spaces that runs throughout the exhibition.
For the exhibition at the Beijing gallery, we developed print and digital posters in Chinese and English, as well as social media materials for the Chinese platform WeChat and international social networks targeting a foreign audience.
In collaboration with Olesya Pedchenko, a designer from the HSE Art and Design School, and Zhang Zixi, a gallery designer from Bounded Space, a postcard and booklet were also prepared. The postcard translates the primary graphic motif into a physical form: one of the vertical lines transforms into an open cutout. This cutout functions as a frame for observing the surrounding space, continuing the exhibition’s core theme of visibility and concealment.
The booklet is designed in the gallery’s standard format—a set of postcards featuring the artist’s works. Its cover mirrors the exhibition’s main identity, preserving the recognizable graphic motif.
IIII. PROMO REEL
In addition, a documentary promotional video was created as part of a course project and in preparation for an upcoming exhibition at a gallery in Beijing.
The video was used to promote the exhibition and introduce the audience to Evgenia Tut’s ideas and artistic philosophy.
The video was also published on the Telegram channel of the FUTURO Moscow Gallery.
